Currently receipts are printed on thermal paper, an unrecyclable material containing BPA. Receipts that end up in landfills or on the streets often find their way into ecosystems, where the chemicals used to produce them leak into the environment.

Why are paper receipts bad?

The use of paper receipts picked up in WWI. More than a century later, they remain unchanged. These receipts are littered across the planet where they leak toxic chemicals. As the world advances technologically, we see countless things made digital, so why not rewrite receipts into the digital age.

Think about the retail workers.

With a human impact, studies have shown that retail employees and workers frequently exposed to paper receipts often carry higher than 30% more BPA and BPS in their systems than non-retail working individuals.

This is especially concerning considering that the average retail worker is 19 to 24 years of age. Although uncommon, constant exposure to such chemicals may show fatal results later on in life.

A single use inconvenience.

Receipts are printed on thermal paper, a single use inkless paper. Receipts are constantly lost and the text on them fades with ease. Those that choose to keep their receipts find them cluttered somewhere. This makes returning purchases and keeping track of them incredibly difficult.
